The Adult by Bronwyn Fischer: A Review

The Adult Bronwyn Fischer

In The Adult, Natalie is 18 and just starting college. She grew up in a small town and it seems this is her first time away from home. She is shakingly insecure and unsure of her every move. Early on in her year she meets Nora, an older woman who ends up sitting next to Natalie at the park as she’s working on her poetry writing for class. Instantly, Natalie feels a calling towards her. They date and the relationship consumes Natalie’s focus. But where is the relationship going? It’s not clear to Natalie and she doesn’t have anyone to talk to about it.

10 Series and Shows Based on True Stories to Check Out This Weekend

It’s hard to go wrong when it comes to shows based on true stories. Maybe more is invested in the show because there’s a built in audience who will want to see it, or maybe real life is just better than fiction. Or at least, more reliable. For this reason memoirs usually pan out as well. In this list I focused on drama shows and mini series that aimed to reenact true, if shocking, events. I skipped over documentaries or shows loosely based on true stories.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles: A Review

Maro's Got Money Troubles review

I don’t normally go for such popular, mainstream books but the premise of this one sounded too good. As soon as I started reading I was like, “whoa, this is high tier.” It was relaxing for my brain to read something where the author took such great care to set the stage, make sure not much came easily to Margo, and that nothing unnecessarily lingered on the page too long. It was smart and fast moving; beautifully done.

The Platform on Netflix: What It All Meant

The Platform on Netflix

While this fight-for-survival movie is all about its messages, it’s not 100% clear what they are. Here’s my take. When we boil it down, survival instincts make up a huge portion of how we behave in this world, so

It Ends With Us Movie Review | Why The Movie Was Better Than The Book

It ends with us movie review

Because of the book’s redeeming qualities and all the hype, I was excited for the movie. The trailer looked good aside from one scene that seemed like bad acting (the one with too much laughter on the rooftop). I was surprised Lily was played by Blake Lively, as in the book she’s younger. But having her older gave more substance to the movie, I realized after seeing it. Here is the rest of my it Ends With Us movie review.

My Ultimate List of Netflix Show Recommendations | All Available To Stream Now

Let’s start with Baby Reindeer.

Baby Reindeer is a fictionalized account of a true story. And the main actor, Richard Gadd, is the person these events happened to in real life.

Donny is a 20-something bartender who would rather be on stage making people laugh, when Martha, an unhinged woman, inserts herself into his life. She becomes obsessed with him, coming into the bar to see him everyday, sending him thousands of odd emails and eventually waiting outside his house for him. But is he really powerless to stop her? Does he like the stalking in a weird way? And just what is her deal?

My Husband by Maud Ventura: A Review

My Husband by Maud Ventura review 5

Her life revolves around him: if he remembers to say he loves her or not, if he sits too far away from her on the couch, or omits her from a story he’s telling by saying “I” instead of “we.” She’ll analyze it all to get to the bottom of the question: does he still love her back?

Jia Tolentino’s Trick Mirror: A Review

My favorite essays were Reality TV and Me, where Jia talks about her time on a reality TV show, bringing us back to reality TV in the early 2000s. Then there was the essay Pure Heroines, where she takes a look at different classic female main character molds from both then and now and what they said/say about a woman’s role.
